The final count is in! Our amazing class of fourth graders read 1042 books in 32 days! Incredible! All of our book log sheets have been submitted to WTBX and we anxiously await the announcement of winners next week.
As of yesterday afternoon our class has read.....wait for it......wait for it.....501 books!!! Equally impressive is the large percentage of nonfiction books included in that total. The students are working on finding the evidence for their answer choice on their AR test for those nonfiction books. We have two weeks left and our goal is to break 1,000. I think we can do it!
Our class is participating in the WTBX Bookworm Reading Contest which runs from March 17-April 18. Students are reading and testing on AR books at their level, then recording those books on a sheet that we will be sending in to WTBX. The northland class that reads the most books by April 18th wins a pizza party with Craig and Rachel. We are well on our way having read 248 books so far!! What a terrific group of readers!
We're working on the last 20 states and capitals this week with the test on Friday. Here is Julie's document to help us all study.
Today we started working on states 16-30. Students created a new Google Document titled "States and Capitals 16-30" and saved it in their Google Drive. Test will be on Friday. It was fun to see how fluent we are all becoming using this new technology. Google Docs is something students will use for years to come.
Today we learned how to create a document in Google Docs using our iPads. Students logged in to their Google Drive and created a new document titled "States and Capitals 1-15." Then they took a screenshot of their work and emailed the document to Mrs. Cannella. The really cool thing about Google Docs is that students can access it from anywhere, anytime! The test for these first 15 states and capitals will be on Friday. Good luck on the test!
